Seven ways you can benefit from teeth whitening at your Sunbury dental office

Of all the accessories that you can wear, a smile is the most important. If you aren’t wearing yours often enough, ask yourself why. Are you embarrassed by stains on your teeth? Have your pearly whites turned dark or yellow over time? Do you feel like the only person in the room without a dazzling smile?

Dr. Terry Rose, Smile In Style

Smile in Style dental offices in Sunbury and Moonee Ponds have a great solution. Teeth whitening treatment can restore your dazzling smile, and provide more benefits than you might expect.

  1. Better oral hygiene – Most patients want to maintain their bright smiles for as long as possible. They tend to brush and floss more often, benefiting overall oral health.
  2. Improved self-confidence – Nothing quite compares to the feeling of flashing a beautiful smile and knowing it.
  3. Look younger – When judging a person’s age, we associate white teeth with youth. One British study found that whiter teeth can make a person look several years younger.
  4. More professional appearance – In today’s society, youth and attractiveness are valued.
  5. Those traits are also important in the workplace, and taking care with your appearance can help give you a professional edge.
  6. Improved social interactions – Is there a better way to break the ice with a new acquaintance, greet an old friend, or show adoration for a romantic interest than with a beautiful smile?
  7. Smile more often – We tend to hide what we are ashamed of, and show off what we take pride in. The more you love your smile, the more you will use it. The health and psychological benefits of smiling are virtually endless.

Safe Amalgam Removal Protocol

  • Chlorella drink prior is given prior to treatment and a mouth rinse post-treatment. Chlorella can help bind and prevent mercury absorption.
  • Physical protective barriers - Masks, protective coverings, eyewear, in-mouth non-latex dental dams, and other steps are taken to prevent physical contact with mercury for the patient and staff.
  • Oral evacuation - Generous amounts of water are used to continuously rinse particulate matter from the mouth while suctioning it away. Combined with protective dental dams, this prevents patients from swallowing dental amalgam particles during treatment. Additionally, the rinsing helps lower the temperature of the filling, reducing the amount of mercury vapour released.
  • External air - A continuous supply of non-contaminated air or oxygen is delivered via a mask or similar apparatus, preventing inhalation of mercury vapour or particles.
  • "Chunk it out" method - Rather than using a drill to grind the filling down, it is carefully removed in the largest possible pieces, minimising friction, vaporisation.
  • High Volume Evacuation Suction is used by the dental assistant to remove amalgam particles in the mouth.
  • High Volume Air suction and Air Purifiers are used in the clinical room that is able to remove mercury vapour from the room.
  • Amalgam separator use - This device collects mercury-contaminated waste before it can enter the sewage system, allowing us to dispose of it safely.
