The science of smiles Today, we have a much better understanding of the human body, including the mouth, and we continue to learn more every day. There is still much to be learned, and certain topics are debated among experts, but one fact has become overwhelmingly clear: The body is … Continue reading

HOLISTIC DENTAL CARE FOR MOONEE PONDS RESIDENTS

enjoy great oral health with holistic dental care from dentist in Monee Ponds

The old model of healthcare, including dentistry, focused on treating the symptoms of sickness once it occurred. Gradually, the focus shifted to treating the sickness itself and, more recently, to preventing it. This focus on prevention may be rather new to traditional practitioners, but it has always been one of the important principles of holistic health care. However, that is only part of the story. The absence of illness is not the same as good health. Holistic dentistry, along with other disciplines in holistic medicine, is designed to promote whole health so you can feel great and live every day … Continue reading

Oil pulling for dental health is a long-standing method. It has recently gained exposure as more people (and celebrities) learn about the practice. Below, Dr. Rose provides tips for the oil pulling practice, including the ever popular question about whether patients should brush before or after the practice. While oil pulling can be performed at any time of the day, many people suggest that it works best first thing in the morning or at least two to three hours after eating to ensure that the individual has an empty stomach. You do not need to brush your teeth before oil … Continue reading

The importance of Mercury Free Dentistry

Mercury Free Dentistry services from dentist in Mooneponds

Since the 1800s, teeth have been restored with a silver-coloured compound called amalgam. Amalgam is an alloy (i.e. a mixture of metals) and is comprised of about 50 percent liquid mercury.   Mercury is extremely toxic to living cells, being second only in toxicity to radioactive materials. Dental amalgam has traditionally been a long lasting, relatively easy to use, cheap material to restore teeth with. Amalgam fillings release mercury vapour constantly. Factors which increase the release of toxic mercury vapours are acidic foods or drinks, hot foods or drinks, grinding your teeth, brushing amalgam fillings, having your teeth cleaned or … Continue reading

Melbourne area residents have alternatives to amalgam fillings

alternatives to amalgam fillings from from dentist in Moonee Ponds

If you have old dental fillings, there is a very good chance they are made of amalgam. Many patients say they have received “silver” fillings without ever being informed about what those fillings actually contain. In case you aren’t familiar with this fact, silver fillings are actually amalgam. It is not silver at all, but a mixture of metals (an alloy) which is composed of about half mercury. Although the dental industry has continued to promote amalgam as a safe and economical dental material, a number of independent studies disagree. Many patients disagree, and the holistic dental community disagrees. The … Continue reading

Safe Amalgam Removal Protocol

  • Chlorella drink prior is given prior to treatment and a mouth rinse post-treatment. Chlorella can help bind and prevent mercury absorption.
  • Physical protective barriers - Masks, protective coverings, eyewear, in-mouth non-latex dental dams, and other steps are taken to prevent physical contact with mercury for the patient and staff.
  • Oral evacuation - Generous amounts of water are used to continuously rinse particulate matter from the mouth while suctioning it away. Combined with protective dental dams, this prevents patients from swallowing dental amalgam particles during treatment. Additionally, the rinsing helps lower the temperature of the filling, reducing the amount of mercury vapour released.
  • External air - A continuous supply of non-contaminated air or oxygen is delivered via a mask or similar apparatus, preventing inhalation of mercury vapour or particles.
  • "Chunk it out" method - Rather than using a drill to grind the filling down, it is carefully removed in the largest possible pieces, minimising friction, vaporisation.
  • High Volume Evacuation Suction is used by the dental assistant to remove amalgam particles in the mouth.
  • High Volume Air suction and Air Purifiers are used in the clinical room that is able to remove mercury vapour from the room.
  • Amalgam separator use - This device collects mercury-contaminated waste before it can enter the sewage system, allowing us to dispose of it safely.
