CEREC stands for Ceramic Restoration done by the Chairside. CEREC technology enables us to replace large failing fillings, veneers or crowns with beautiful, durable biocompatible porcelain restorations using CAD-CAM technology. A camera scans the teeth, generates a 3D model of the teeth and records the way they meet together. This enables the dentist to design a custom fitted CEREC for the tooth. A wireless connected milling machine will grind the CEREC out of a block of porcelain which has been colour matched to your teeth. The CEREC is then fitted in the mouth, cemented and polished. We also have a state of the art ceramic kiln which allows on site staining and glazing at the same visit to give you a more natural looking tooth. Although the convenience of same-day completion of treatment is appealing, there is actually much more to working with your CEREC dentist than time-effectiveness.

CEREC restorations bring:

Conservative treatment, which is a goal of your skilled dentist. CEREC restorations such as crowns, inlays, and onlays are expertly crafted using this state-of-the-art technology. Once completed by our in-house milling machine, the CEREC restoration is bonded to the prepared tooth. The difference that comes from bonding over mechanical retention for the restoration of cavities means that a lesser amount of tooth structure needs to be removed. By preserving more of the natural tooth structure we are able to facilitate greater strength and durability of the tooth.

Biocompatibility and strength of the CEREC restoration with your natural tissues decreases the chance of irritation, as well as abrasion to your surrounding teeth. The high quality ceramic from which CEREC restorations are made is superior in both strength and aesthetics. The rate of expansion and contraction is so similar to natural enamel that the fit of a CEREC restoration remains precise for years.

Longevity is an important goal in dentistry. CEREC restorations first emerged in dentistry in the early 80’s. Many of the first restorations using this technology are still intact and fully functional.

An attractive appearance is maintained with CEREC restorations because the ceramic material used to craft crowns looks just like natural enamel. No need to worry that a dark line will appear at the gums. A CEREC restoration will have no negative impact whatsoever on the smile.

Many of our patients are looking for long lasting, comfortable biocompatible/nonmetallic alternative restorations in cases where large fillings or crowns fail. With offices in Moonee Ponds and Sunbury, we can conveniently provide this service to you to help you meet your dental needs. Contact us today for your visit.

Safe Amalgam Removal Protocol

  • Chlorella drink prior is given prior to treatment and a mouth rinse post-treatment. Chlorella can help bind and prevent mercury absorption.
  • Physical protective barriers - Masks, protective coverings, eyewear, in-mouth non-latex dental dams, and other steps are taken to prevent physical contact with mercury for the patient and staff.
  • Oral evacuation - Generous amounts of water are used to continuously rinse particulate matter from the mouth while suctioning it away. Combined with protective dental dams, this prevents patients from swallowing dental amalgam particles during treatment. Additionally, the rinsing helps lower the temperature of the filling, reducing the amount of mercury vapour released.
  • External air - A continuous supply of non-contaminated air or oxygen is delivered via a mask or similar apparatus, preventing inhalation of mercury vapour or particles.
  • "Chunk it out" method - Rather than using a drill to grind the filling down, it is carefully removed in the largest possible pieces, minimising friction, vaporisation.
  • High Volume Evacuation Suction is used by the dental assistant to remove amalgam particles in the mouth.
  • High Volume Air suction and Air Purifiers are used in the clinical room that is able to remove mercury vapour from the room.
  • Amalgam separator use - This device collects mercury-contaminated waste before it can enter the sewage system, allowing us to dispose of it safely.
