Cone Beam Machine in Sunbury area

A tradition of excellence in dental imaging

Dr. Rose purchased his first OPG (PAX-500  by Vatech) machine more than a decade ago. It was a digital x-ray system, which could take panoramic or lateral (side view) images in less time with higher quality than traditional x-rays. In August of 2018, Dr Rose wanted to expand his diagnostic capabilities for his patients and the Sunbury branch of Smile in Style became the first Victoria dental practice to acquire a Vatech Green 16 cone beam machine. After extensive research, Dr. Rose selected this model for several reasons, including:

  • Quality of images – Improves the accuracy in diagnosis and precision in treatment planning for implants, orthodontics and airway assessments

Improved patient safety – Vatech Green 16 reduces radiation exposure up to 70 percent as compared to many other systems, which aligns with our commitment to provide the safest and healthiest dental care possible

  • Reliability of equipment – Ensures that this machine won’t let the dentist (or patient) down
  • Versatility – This device can scan hard and soft tissues with uses ranging from evaluating the airway in cases of snoring and apnoea;  to analyzing bone tissue in preparation for implant placement
  • Software functionality – Includes modules for purposes such as airway analysis, as well as file export options for implant planning for a seamless workflow

The seamless flow of our digital technologies

The seamless flow of our digital technologies in Sunbury area

We take pride in delivering high-quality, dental care with a personal touch. Patients will often remember our friendly receptionist, our gentle hygienist, our compassionate dentist, and the wonderful treatment results. What they might not remember, or even notice, is the high-tech devices and techniques used throughout the treatment process – and that is exactly as it should be.

In truth, one of the hallmarks of truly great dental technology is that is makes the patient experience simpler, faster, and more comfortable dental treatment. Yet, selecting the right equipment is only part of the equation. A random collection of sophisticated technology can easily result in frustrations, glitches, and endless compatibility issues, as everyone knows from personal experience living in the era of technology. That is why Dr. Rose has spent countless hours researching, training, and planning to create a seamless workflow for optimal efficiency and the best possible patient experience.

Our cone beam CT and digital x-ray systems let the dentist see beyond the surface, analyzing tooth, bone, and soft tissue structures in 3D. These images can be enlarged and enhanced to provide a level of detail that was not possible in the past. They can also be saved or exported for use with other software and devices, including orthodontic growth prediction software, intraoral scanners, the Fotona Lightwalker laser.

Dental technology in action

While our patients might not be aware of the scope of next-generation technology used in their treatments, they most certainly notice the benefits. We often hear how pleasantly surprised people are at the speed and efficiency of treatment, accuracy of diagnostics in difficult cases, and stunning quality of results.

Furthermore, Dr. Rose understands the benefits of these devices from personal experience as an OSA (obstructive sleep apnoea) sufferer. Dr. Rose utilized the airway analysis capacity of the Vatech Green 16 cone beam machine in conjunction with Fotona Lightwalker’s Nightlase function and a custom designed Mandibular Advancement Splint (MAS) to treat his sleep aponea and restore his own quality of sleep. Now he no longer snores, sleeps soundly and feels refreshed in the mornings.

Safe Amalgam Removal Protocol

  • Chlorella drink prior is given prior to treatment and a mouth rinse post-treatment. Chlorella can help bind and prevent mercury absorption.
  • Physical protective barriers - Masks, protective coverings, eyewear, in-mouth non-latex dental dams, and other steps are taken to prevent physical contact with mercury for the patient and staff.
  • Oral evacuation - Generous amounts of water are used to continuously rinse particulate matter from the mouth while suctioning it away. Combined with protective dental dams, this prevents patients from swallowing dental amalgam particles during treatment. Additionally, the rinsing helps lower the temperature of the filling, reducing the amount of mercury vapour released.
  • External air - A continuous supply of non-contaminated air or oxygen is delivered via a mask or similar apparatus, preventing inhalation of mercury vapour or particles.
  • "Chunk it out" method - Rather than using a drill to grind the filling down, it is carefully removed in the largest possible pieces, minimising friction, vaporisation.
  • High Volume Evacuation Suction is used by the dental assistant to remove amalgam particles in the mouth.
  • High Volume Air suction and Air Purifiers are used in the clinical room that is able to remove mercury vapour from the room.
  • Amalgam separator use - This device collects mercury-contaminated waste before it can enter the sewage system, allowing us to dispose of it safely.
