We restore smiles quickly with CEREC Inlays & Onlays in our office near Melbourne

Through the wonderful evolution of dental science, we now have several ways in which to repair tooth damage and improve overall oral health. One of the ways the value of a restoration is determined is by assessing its capabilities in comparison to previous techniques.

Dr. Terry Rose, Smile In Style

One of the innovative treatment options used to restore smiles is CEREC. With these chairside restorations, such as crowns, inlays & onlays we are able to provide our patients with biocompatible porcelain restorations in one visit. Our Melbourne offices are located in Sunbury and Moonee Ponds.

What most people know about CEREC restorations is that they are quick, completed in a single visit. Though this is certainly a welcome benefit, there is more to this treatment than timeliness:

  • The high quality ceramic material used to make CEREC restorations has qualities that are very much like tooth enamel. Due to the nonabrasive, smooth texture of ceramic, the impact on surrounding teeth is very mild.
  • Longevity. While ceramic restorations are gentle to tooth material, they are so durable that many of those that were placed decades ago are still in place today. Part of what aids in the durability of CEREC restorations is the similarity shared by ceramic and enamel.
  • CEREC inlays and onlays are bonded to tooth structure. As a result of the precise bonding process, a CEREC restoration will have tight borders and an excellent fit while allowing for the preservation of natural tooth material. This is an important point at our office as we try to preserve as much tooth structure as possible. Inlays and onlays are preferable to full crowns where adequate tooth structure remains.
  • Beauty is an important factor in restorative dentistry, even though the focus of this type of care is tooth repair. CEREC ceramic restorations are designed to match surrounding teeth in color and sheen, achieving a beautifully natural result.

One of the considerations given to dental restorations is longevity. We want to know that the work we do to repair a patient’s smile is going to last a very long time. The proven track record that CEREC has earned gives us confidence that this form of treatment will exceed our patients’ expectations.

Safe Amalgam Removal Protocol

  • Chlorella drink prior is given prior to treatment and a mouth rinse post-treatment. Chlorella can help bind and prevent mercury absorption.
  • Physical protective barriers - Masks, protective coverings, eyewear, in-mouth non-latex dental dams, and other steps are taken to prevent physical contact with mercury for the patient and staff.
  • Oral evacuation - Generous amounts of water are used to continuously rinse particulate matter from the mouth while suctioning it away. Combined with protective dental dams, this prevents patients from swallowing dental amalgam particles during treatment. Additionally, the rinsing helps lower the temperature of the filling, reducing the amount of mercury vapour released.
  • External air - A continuous supply of non-contaminated air or oxygen is delivered via a mask or similar apparatus, preventing inhalation of mercury vapour or particles.
  • "Chunk it out" method - Rather than using a drill to grind the filling down, it is carefully removed in the largest possible pieces, minimising friction, vaporisation.
  • High Volume Evacuation Suction is used by the dental assistant to remove amalgam particles in the mouth.
  • High Volume Air suction and Air Purifiers are used in the clinical room that is able to remove mercury vapour from the room.
  • Amalgam separator use - This device collects mercury-contaminated waste before it can enter the sewage system, allowing us to dispose of it safely.
