Dental crowns without the wait and hassle, thanks to same-day dentistry

There are more than 18,000 dentists in Australia. These dentists’ offices vary considerably regarding on-site capabilities, technologies, expertise, and amenities. So, not all are equipped to offer same-day dentistry. Dr Terry Rose and the dentists at Smile In Style are pleased to provide our Sunbury and Moonee Ponds patients with the most convenient and hassle-free way to rebuild teeth with crowns.

Same Day Dental Crowns in Sunbury VIC Area

Get to know CEREC same-day crowns and restorations

CEREC stands for “Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramic.” While it may sound like a mouthful, this simply means that we can make porcelain dental crowns, inlays, and onlays while you wait in the office (chairside).

The CEREC system consists of a 3-dimensional camera that is synced to a computer. This camera scans and captures a digital image of the teeth, gums, and mouth. This information is transferred to a computer, where the dentist will design a porcelain crown, inlay, or onlay for you. Once the design is completed, the information is relayed to our milling machine to fabricate a stunning and strong dental restoration from a block of porcelain.

After the dentist has created the crown, inlay, or onlay, we will test it in your mouth to ensure the fit is accurate. If no adjustments are required, we will cement it in your mouth. In the past, getting a crown, inlay, or onlay involved the dentist preparing the tooth, taking an impression, and sending it to a laboratory. The lab would then make the restoration, which could take a few weeks before being returned to the dentist.

While waiting for their permanent restoration, a temporary restoration is placed over the tooth to protect the treatment site. However, temporary restorations are fragile and prone to breaking, which could lead to additional visits to the dentist’s office.

With our on-site digital camera, computer-aided design (CAD/CAM), and milling machine, Smile In Style can do all of the following steps in a crown, inlay, or onlay making process in just one visit:

  • Plan—Our digital intraoral scanner is fast, has a high accuracy rate, and can create a high-quality scan of your tooth/teeth in minutes. This scan can then be used to design your restoration.
  • Design – Using these highly precise images from the intraoral scanner and cutting-edge software, we can accurately design your crown, inlay or onlay.
  • Make—The finalised design is sent to our milling machine, which precisely cuts the restoration from a high-quality block of porcelain.
  • Finish—For a more natural look, we can stain and glaze the restoration using our in-house stains and then fire it in our furnace. This step helps ensure the restoration’s utmost strength. We can also colour-match the restoration with the colour of the rest of your teeth.

Our range of on-site CEREC/same-day dentistry capabilities has eliminated all the traditional hassles and stresses associated with getting a dental crown, inlay, or onlay. Safe Amalgam Removal Protocol

  • Chlorella drink prior is given prior to treatment and a mouth rinse post-treatment. Chlorella can help bind and prevent mercury absorption.
  • Physical protective barriers - Masks, protective coverings, eyewear, in-mouth non-latex dental dams, and other steps are taken to prevent physical contact with mercury for the patient and staff.
  • Oral evacuation - Generous amounts of water are used to continuously rinse particulate matter from the mouth while suctioning it away. Combined with protective dental dams, this prevents patients from swallowing dental amalgam particles during treatment. Additionally, the rinsing helps lower the temperature of the filling, reducing the amount of mercury vapour released.
  • External air - A continuous supply of non-contaminated air or oxygen is delivered via a mask or similar apparatus, preventing inhalation of mercury vapour or particles.
  • "Chunk it out" method - Rather than using a drill to grind the filling down, it is carefully removed in the largest possible pieces, minimising friction, vaporisation.
  • High Volume Evacuation Suction is used by the dental assistant to remove amalgam particles in the mouth.
  • High Volume Air suction and Air Purifiers are used in the clinical room that is able to remove mercury vapour from the room.
  • Amalgam separator use - This device collects mercury-contaminated waste before it can enter the sewage system, allowing us to dispose of it safely.
