Finding the right dental clinic for your family in Sunbury

If you’re looking for a new dental clinic in Sunbury, you may not know where to start. The choices can feel overwhelming. Dr Terry Rose of Smile in Style knows that you have options when it comes to dental care. Below he offers several tips for finding the right dental practice for you and your family:

Look for referrals: If you simply don’t know where to start, consider asking your friends and family for a referral. Find out which dental clinic they use and why they like it there. This could lead directly to a new dentist, or it could help you determine which factors are most important to you.

Consider location: Ideally you’ll only have two dental visits a year. However, if an emergency comes up or if you need treatment that requires several trips to the office, you’ll want the dentist’s location to be convenient. Look for a clinic that’s located near your home, office or school.

Services offered: Let’s face it, most people don’t love going to the dentist. So when you find a practice you like, you’re going to want to be able to get all of your necessary treatments there rather than be referred out to other practices. Furthermore, finding a clinic that can treat the entire family is likely preferred over a practice that specializes only in one type of dentistry or patient.

Trust: Finally, and perhaps the most important consideration, is your relationship with the dentist and team. Do you feel like you are respected and valued when you walk in the door? Do you trust the dentist to provide expert care and advice? Does the team take their time to answer your questions and address your concerns? Your dental health will depend on your relationship with the dental team.

Safe Amalgam Removal Protocol

  • Chlorella drink prior is given prior to treatment and a mouth rinse post-treatment. Chlorella can help bind and prevent mercury absorption.
  • Physical protective barriers - Masks, protective coverings, eyewear, in-mouth non-latex dental dams, and other steps are taken to prevent physical contact with mercury for the patient and staff.
  • Oral evacuation - Generous amounts of water are used to continuously rinse particulate matter from the mouth while suctioning it away. Combined with protective dental dams, this prevents patients from swallowing dental amalgam particles during treatment. Additionally, the rinsing helps lower the temperature of the filling, reducing the amount of mercury vapour released.
  • External air - A continuous supply of non-contaminated air or oxygen is delivered via a mask or similar apparatus, preventing inhalation of mercury vapour or particles.
  • "Chunk it out" method - Rather than using a drill to grind the filling down, it is carefully removed in the largest possible pieces, minimising friction, vaporisation.
  • High Volume Evacuation Suction is used by the dental assistant to remove amalgam particles in the mouth.
  • High Volume Air suction and Air Purifiers are used in the clinical room that is able to remove mercury vapour from the room.
  • Amalgam separator use - This device collects mercury-contaminated waste before it can enter the sewage system, allowing us to dispose of it safely.
