Child receiving gentle dental treatment in Sunbury–Moonee Ponds clinic

Smile In Style has been supporting the Federal Government’s Child Dental Benefits Scheme since its introduction in 2014. The scheme is part of the National Dental Health Reform, which is designed to address increasing dental decay and poor oral health in children between the ages of 2 to 18 years.

The Child Dental Benefits Schedule eligibility is assessed by the Australian Government through Services Australia (Medicare/Centrelink system). It provides a capped benefit entitlement for each child over a two year calendar period. Basic dental services are provided for children aged 2-18 in families who meet a means test. Criteria include the requirements for receipt of Family Tax Benefit Part A or other certain government payments.

Most children will be informed of eligibility at the beginning of the year but if you are unsure, you can always give us a call and we would be happy to check your child’s eligibility with Medicare.

Once a child has been assessed as eligible, they are then eligible for that entire calendar year – even if they are turning 18, or stop receiving the relevant government payment.

The basic dental service includes essential dental treatment such as x-rays, check-ups, restorations, fissure sealants and extractions. Orthodontics and cosmetic treatments are not included in this scheme.
