The Child Dental Benefits Scheme
Smile In Style is pleased to be supporting the Federal Government’s Child Dental Benefits Scheme. The scheme is part of the National Dental Health Reform, which is designed to address increasing dental decay and poor oral health in children between the ages of 2 to 17 years.
The Child Dental Benefit Scheme will provide a capped benefit entitlement in the amount of $1000 for each child over a two year calendar period. Basic dental services are provided for children aged 2-18 in families who meet a means test. Criteria include the requirements for receipt of Family Tax Benefit Part A or other certain government payments.
The Department of Human Services will assess a child’s eligibility from the start of each calendar year depending on the family’s recent tax return. Routine checks are performed throughout the year to determine newly eligible children. Most children will be informed of eligibility at the beginning of the year but if you are unsure, you can always give us a call and we would be happy to check your child’s eligibility with Medicare.
Once a child has been assessed as eligible, they are then eligible for that entire calendar year – even if they are turning 18, or stop receiving the relevant government payment.
The basic dental service includes essential dental treatment such as x-rays, check-ups, restorations, fissure sealants and extractions. Orthodontics and cosmetic treatments are not included in this scheme.
Don’t miss out if your child is eligible for the Child Dental Benefits Scheme. We bulk bill payments to Medicare under the Child Dental Benefit Scheme, so there is no out of pocket cost to you.
