Mercury is the most poisonous naturally occurring substance on the planet. It is a powerful neurotoxin damages the immune system, and directly or indirectly contributes to or makes worse every health issue you will ever deal with. Mercury contributes to memory loss, depression, autism, and plays a role in heart disease to name but a few. Amalgam silver fillings constantly release toxic mercury vapour much more so and stimulated by anything including such common actions as tooth brushing. This is illustrated in the following demonstration by Doctor Tom McGuire.
So what I will do is I am going to take a reading of the ambient air around the filling. Above the filling I might say and we will get a reading there and then I will take a reading of the filling and then I am going to brush it with a soft bristle tooth brush for 10 or 15 seconds and I will take a reading and then we will see what that says. Let see ted do you see the reading, it reads, you should read it out, zero, zero. Zero point zero, zero. It takes about 12 15 second sampling of the air and then it is computerized so it projects it into the air. Okay what does it say now? Zero point zero, zero. Okay, now here is the amalgam, has a MOD in it. Let’s see what happens to that. Okay. Six point zero. Zero. That multiplied by three million by the way. Three point zero, zero. That’s three micro grams per cubic meter. Six. I am six I am sorry, thank you. That’s why I have some grey hair up here. So let’s give it ah some brushing here. Umm depending on the brush, how hard it is and how much pressure you put on it, that’s also going to affect and high copper amalgam. Will also affect it. By the way high copper amalgam releases 50 time for mercury given the same temperature and simulation as the older ones. Two hundred and sixty point seven. That’s micrograms. So you get a pretty good idea that the idea of mercury coming off an amalgam filling even from a common form of stimulation can be significant. Now if you see the way if you divide this up in the middle, you see on the left side, you have chewing your food, and 36 micrograms per cubic meter of air. Tooth brushing two hundred, tooth grinding three fifty. Wet polishing five hundred and again micrograms per cubic meter of air. Dry brushing six hundred and unsafe removal, a thousand.
A telling demonstration but what do the numbers actually mean. Remember mercury vapor in any quantity is poisonous and as profound psychological and physical effects. Here are just some of the psychological and emotional symptoms of chronic mercury poisoning. And here are just some of the physical symptoms of chronic mercury poisoning. In addition these are some diseases related to chronic mercury poisoning. As well this is just a partial list of how mercury relates to reproductive disorders. Regardless of a dentist’s belief about whether or not mercury amalgam fillings are a health hazard, you have seen that removing them unsafely can generate toxic levels of mercury vapor exposing the dentist, the dental staff, and the patient. The good news is the safe removal protocols are effective and available and we believe they should be adopted by all dentists and the bad news is that today only a small percentage of dentists are using the safe removal protocols.
