Nightlase for Snoring

Quality sleep is necessary for your overall wellbeing. For patients with sleep apnoea, this is often associated with loud snoring that interferes with your sleep and your partner’s rest as well. Treatment options are available for patients seeking sleep apnoea solutions or a cure for snoring. For patients located near Moonee Ponds or Sunbury, the team at Smile in Style offers snoring treatment using the NightLase® procedure.

Quality sleep improves your mood, mental state, and physical abilities. Lack of sleep can increase your stress level or the chances of you falling asleep while driving or at work. A chronic lack of restorative sleep can lead to health problems such as:

  • High blood pressure
  • Heart disease
  • Obesity

What is NightLase®?

At Smile in Style, we offer NightLase® which is a non-invasive laser treatment for snoring. The treatment is designed to increase sleep quality. NightLase® decreases the destructive effects of sleep apnoea including snoring. The treatment works by targeting the muscles and tissue at the back of the throat. Sleep apnoea is commonly caused by the overly relaxed muscles causing the tissue to block the airway. You cannot breathe meaning your brain awakens you so you can start breathing once more. The process may be repeated 30 times or more per hour which contributes to your sleepiness during the day.

How does it work?

NightLase® is a gentle, yet effective laser procedure that targets the soft tissues at the back of the mouth. This precise therapy only treats the targeted areas. The laser heats the tissues leading to a tightening effect on the excess or floppy throat tissue. By tightening the tissues, they are less likely to vibrate or droop during sleep so your airways stay open. Patients can sleep better and benefit by undergoing a safe, gentle, effective procedure with results that last up to a year.

Safe Amalgam Removal Protocol

  • Chlorella drink prior is given prior to treatment and a mouth rinse post-treatment. Chlorella can help bind and prevent mercury absorption.
  • Physical protective barriers - Masks, protective coverings, eyewear, in-mouth non-latex dental dams, and other steps are taken to prevent physical contact with mercury for the patient and staff.
  • Oral evacuation - Generous amounts of water are used to continuously rinse particulate matter from the mouth while suctioning it away. Combined with protective dental dams, this prevents patients from swallowing dental amalgam particles during treatment. Additionally, the rinsing helps lower the temperature of the filling, reducing the amount of mercury vapour released.
  • External air - A continuous supply of non-contaminated air or oxygen is delivered via a mask or similar apparatus, preventing inhalation of mercury vapour or particles.
  • "Chunk it out" method - Rather than using a drill to grind the filling down, it is carefully removed in the largest possible pieces, minimising friction, vaporisation.
  • High Volume Evacuation Suction is used by the dental assistant to remove amalgam particles in the mouth.
  • High Volume Air suction and Air Purifiers are used in the clinical room that is able to remove mercury vapour from the room.
  • Amalgam separator use - This device collects mercury-contaminated waste before it can enter the sewage system, allowing us to dispose of it safely.
