Veneers
A highly popular cosmetic treatment to accomplish a beautifully aligned, perfectly contoured smile is to cover imperfections beneath high quality porcelain veneers. These shells of porcelain material may be wafer thin, but they gain immense tensile strength when they are bonded to prepared teeth with strong adhesive cement. With porcelain veneers from your Smile in Style dentist, you can see a dramatic transformation by covering: Chips or cracks, Gaps, Mild turning and Deep stains
Porcelain veneers are an ideal solution to cosmetic problems, and are a conservative form of cosmetic enhancement that makes an enormous difference in your appearance. In some instances, a veneer can even make a suitable alternative for a dental crown, or orthodontic treatment in mild cases. Where there is significant crowding and rotation of teeth our first choice of treatment is orthodontics.
During a consultation for cosmetic dental treatment, your dentists will develop a treatment plan that will help you accomplish your goals. If porcelain veneers are agreed upon, teeth will be prepared with a light buffing, and the removal of a small amount of surface enamel. Typically, 0.5mm of enamel is removed, and may be done comfortably with local anaesthetic. This step is necessary so that veneers can lie flush with gum tissue for a perfectly natural smile. The fact that enamel is removed, however, makes veneers a permanent, non-reversible treatment.
Typically, porcelain veneers take two visits to complete. Our offices, however, are equipped with a CEREC camera and milling machine, which creates customised veneers so quickly that your treatment is completed within just one office visit.
Porcelain veneers lead to a dramatic transformation that can take some time getting used to. Especially in the instance that a crooked tooth or teeth have been corrected, your overall oral structure may feel slightly different. Within a few weeks, the soft tissues of your mouth adjust to this new structure, and you will not notice anything but your beautiful new smile.
Although veneers are extremely strong once bonded to teeth, this cosmetic treatment may not be suitable for those who cannot break the habit of biting on hard objects, who have a heavy bite, or who grind their teeth. To keep veneers in their best condition, a bite splint may be made to wear at night to protect against grinding.
Veneers can improve the look of your smile for many years. All that is needed is an adequate home hygiene routine with twice a day brushing and regular flossing, and dental check-ups every six months.
